Ultimate reverb and processing for any format System 6000 is an industry milestone. It is a proven fact that processors have made a genuine leap forward during the past 10 years. System 6000 was honored with the prestigious TEC award in year 2000, but its software and processing capabilities have developed immensely since then. This development path offers System 6000 users a wealth of free additions and new license possibilities.
A System 6000 without additional licenses, AKA Reverb 6000, contains dozens of pristine reverb, delay and boundary effects for any format from mono, stereo, LCR, LtRt to 5.1 and 6.1. Among the hundreds of presets available, the Halls of Fame bank and the Skywalker Sound Collection provides presets created by some of the most respected people in the music and film industry. With internal double precision processing, superb jitter rejection and reference quality AD and DA converters, no other reverb on the planet comes close to the resolution and performance of Reverb 6000.
Clearly, a high quality realtime processor can be used for more than spatial effects. Numerous license extensions are available in order to turn the 6000 into a mastering processor, monitor matrix, format converter and much more. Upsampled limiters, multiband processors, up- and down-conversion, George Massenburg's wonderful MDW® Eqs and Pristine research-intensive processing a la carte can be used stand-alone or well integrated with large format consoles or digital workstations.
Hardware for System 6000 and Reverb 6000: The hardware components for System 6000 and Reverb 6000 are identical. The setup consists of various components, with the Mainframe 6000 as the “heart and brain” holding the DSP’s and I/O’s. The TC ICON combined with the Remote CPU 6000 is the control interface of Mainframe 6000. A software version of the TC ICON controller is available for Mac and PC platforms. Multiple Mainframes, TC ICON’s and Software ICON’s can be connected in a network using standard Ethernet equipment and TCP/IP protocol. Up to 10 ICON control surfaces can be connected to the same Mainframe, and up to 254 Mainframes can be set up in the same network. On top of the core components, various optional I/O’s and peripherals are available.
TC Icon and Remote CPU 6000:
Control interface for System 6000 and Reverb 6000 A high-resolution TFT active matrix color LCD, with a full size touch screen on top, combined with six motorized touch sensitive faders, gives you the most intuitive user interface on the market today. Simply find the parameters on the touch screen, and adjust them with the faders. TC ICON connects with one multi-pin cable to the Remote CPU 6000.
The Remote CPU is a 1U rack computer executing the ICON program and controlling the communication with the Mainframe 6000. Connected to the Mainframe with standard Ethernet cable, enabling extremely long cable lengths between the CPU and the Mainframe 6000.
Standard TCP/IP protocol enables smooth integration with existing network installations and gives the ability to combine several Mainframes and ICON’s in a flexible network. Optional monitor, keyboard and mouse can be connected.
Mainframe 6000 The heart of System 6000 and Reverb 6000, housing DSP’s, audio I/O's and control interfaces. The four Engine structure gives the possibility of running up to four algorithms simultaneously, with 32 I/O channels internally. Engine I/O’s connects to any of the physical I/O’s. Eight AES I/O channels is standard and additional six analog or eight AES I/O’s can be fitted into one M6000, giving 16 channels of physical I/O. Word Clock-input, SMPTE time-code input and MIDI In/Out/Thru are standard.
Connects to the TC Icon/Remote CPU via Ethernet, giving the option of networking several M6000's and ICON’s.
ADA 2496 A non-compromise two channel analog I/O card, offering 24bit conversion at sample rates up to 96kHz and performances that compares to very expensive stand-alone AD/DA converters. At 44,1 and 48kHz sample rates a dedicated DSP-processor executes different types of high-precision up- and down-sampling filters after the AD/DA conversion. This way ADA 24/96 preserves the benefits from the high-sampling domain in the low sampling domain, removing all aliasing distortion components in the conversion process.
The System 6000 Palette: System 6000 contains a wealth of software solutions for various production applications, which goes beyond what Reverb 6000 and any other Digital Signal Processing unit on the market offers today. Both for Mastering, Music and Film/Post production applications, System 6000 contains unique processing features, which are "must-haves" in almost any professional environment. • Any format Whether you are looking for stereo or multi-channel EQ and dynamics, or conversion tools to bring your material from stereo to 5.1 or from 5.1 to Stereo format, System 6000 has it. • Your choice of processing features All System 6000 features can be added to the standard Reverb/System 6000 palette of processing tools, and you are the one to decide what you need and when you need it. The algorithms can either be purchased or rented on an hour basis, depending on your requirements.
Note: All features and algorithms from Reverb 6000 is also included in System 6000.
VSS 5.1 SOURCE OR ROOM SIMULATION The "VSS ?5.1 Source"is a true 5.1 Room Simulator. Multi-directional Early Reflection patterns and five uncorrelated Reverbs are integrated in this algorithm. There are several ways of incorporating the Center channel including TC ?s phantom simulation.
Four discrete Input sources, each with their own precisely defined Reflection properties can be individually positioned in the sound field using the touch screen of the Icon.
Imaging and room properties typically sound more natural than if a certain event is subjected to the compromises of distant miking, imperfect rooms, arrays of microphones and finally the end listeners ? speaker configuration.
The Early Reflection patterns maximize localization and widen the sweet spot. Consistent location, even outside the speaker arrays, can be obtained. Perfect fold-down to matrixed surround, stereo and mono is ensured thanks to the fully uncorrelated rendering used in VSS ?5.1 Source. VSS SR (4:2:4 SURROUND) The VSS ?SR (Surround) algorithm is a unique room simulator with new facilities for surround production. The diffused field of the simulation is turned into an Lt /Rt signal with separate Decay, Level and Pre-delay parameters for front and rear. The Output of the simulator is compatible with mono, stereo and matrixed surround reproduction.
When used for surround production a surround encoder is not needed, but monitoring should be done through a Dolby ProLogic ?compatible decoding system. VSS 5.1 REVERB If you need to add reverb to an existing 5.1 signal or move sources around with a joystick,VSS ?5.1 Reverb is your algorithm. It features multi-directional reflection patterns and five uncorrelated reverbs. Positioning can be done from your console, our external joystick and from the TC Icon touch screen.
As a request from mastering engineers, the LFE signal is passed through unprocessed but time-aligned with the 5 main channels. Several ways of incorporating the Center channels are offere including TC ?s phantom simulation. Perfect fold-down to matrixed surround, stereo and mono is ensured thanks to the fully decorrelated rendering used in VSS ?5.1 Reverb. You can even specify different decay times per channel. SPACEPAN 5.1 Eight source surround panner to 5 channel output.Panning is achieved using level or delay or a combination of both. The 8x5 individual delays make Space Pan 5.1 a powerful tool for the Film and Post production engineer.
You can also use your console ?s automated surround panner or TC ?s cascadable external SP-1 Joystick.
System 6000 ?s 6.5 inch (165mm) color touch-screen isplay brings the internal workings of TC ?s flagship into focus. You ?ll never find yourself lost in hidden sub-menus, everything in the system is literally at your fingertips. MD 5.1 The MD5.1 algorithm is a multi-channel multi-band Expander/Compressor, with Limiters and extensive possibilities to assign channels to multiple side-chains. Based on the M5000 MD2 heritage, four-band dynamics are here available for 5.1-productions. With MD5.1, dynamics processing is integrated seamlessly into the 5.1 environment. Some features will not be available when using multiple stereo dynamic processors.Together with the EQ5.1 and Toolbox 5.1, MD5.1 is an innovative package of mastering tools for multi-channel productions. EQ 5.1 Six mono channels of four band fully parametric EQ and 48 bit processing of signal-path.
This is a general-purpose algorithm which can be used in conjunction with other algorithms or used stand alone. Channels can be linked or used separately. Analog sounding, high precision filter models are used, and Softclip can be selected on each output. VP-8 (Eight Channel Vari-Pitch) As a result of intelligent splicing, the algorithm may be used for demanding applications like real-time pitch change of entire 5.1/7.1 stems when converting frame rates between video and film (25 to 24 fps.and vice versa).
Channels may be locked in various ways to preserve phase relationship while applying pitch hange. This feature is in high demand and currently not available in 5.1 -for telecine, film and post processing. The up and down pitch range is +/-200 cents. TOOLBOX 5.1 The Toolbox 5.1 is designed to support surround production. The algorithm offers different Level, Test and Bass management as well as Down Mix options.
Toolbox 5.1 is offered as an integrated part of the MD5.1 and VP8 License packages. ENGINE MEMORY More than 500 Factory presets logically arranged for Reverb, Mastering, Pitch & Delay with dedicated Stereo, 5.1, Music and Film/Post presets in currently 8 banks of up to 100 presets each. Additional room for 100 User presets is also provided.
Fader Settings ?Factory and User definable 6 faders parameters settings for direct access and interface flexibility.
Naming ?Use the TC Icon keyboard or your own computer keyboard and Mouse. SCENE MEMORY The Mother of all presets. Sitting on top of all the memory banks, every parameter in all four Engine presets, plus the Routing of all four Engines are stored in one Master preset. The most often used Scenes are pre-loaded and clearly labeled for quick access. One memory Recall and choose from 50 Factory ROM and 50 User RAM memory Scenes. Engine and Routing parameters are loaded in less than 1 second!
Archive Mode ? Why not save all of the System 6000 memories to a standard 1.44MB PC formatted floppy and store it with the track sheets. ROUTING MEMORY Currently 14 independent digital and analog physical inputs,14 independent physical digital and analog Outputs. There are millions of possible combinations as each of the four engines has 8 Inputs and 8 Outputs. With the System 6000 ?s routing memory anything you can conceive an be stored in one of the 100 Routing User memories or is already featured in one of the Routing factory memories. Routing memory is independent of the Engine memory, so you can set up a routing and try different combinations of Engine presets to achieve the desired results. SMPTE SMPTE control functions include automated program changes with both Scene and Engine recalls. Cue-lists can be created automatically by "recording"preset changes together with incoming SMPTE time-code. The cue-list can be edited manually afterwards, cue by ue.The cue-list operation is handled using the TC Icon. Several Mainframes can be automated from the same cue-list, thanks to System 6000 ?s networking abilities. VSS 3 The VSS ?3 algorithm was designed for a variety of applications ranging from music, post to film production. The objective is a "true-to-life" sound enabling the user to mimic environments. To establish convincing room-types the Early Reflections must be carefully reproduced. Are the surfaces hard or soft, is the room furnished or unfurnished, is it a small or big car?
The configuration is Mono In /Stereo Out. The uncorellated design ensures perfect mono compatibility on the Outputs. DELAY-1 The DELAY-1 algorithm is basically an easy to handle true stereo digital Delay. DELAY-2 The Delay-2 algorithm is an advanced but easy to handle true stereo digital Delay line. With Cross feedback section and modulation section. This Delay is capable of doing anything from smooth spatial expanding to the wildest echo effects. REVERB-3 From the M5000 the Reverb-3 provides the user with a true Stereo Reverb. It is capable of making an exceptionally clear Reverb sound using a very dense and natural sounding Reverb Tail. Decay time can be controlled in four individually adjustable frequency bands. Using Diffuse and Distance controls, sounds can be made in which practically no Early Reflections are heard. Add a slight modulation to this to minimize room interaction with your source material and you have Reverb-3. REV CORE-2 The TC Electronic true stereo Rev Core-2 algorithms are particularly good for small room simulations. Due to the high density structure the relatively short Tails occurring in small rooms can be convincingly reproduced. As the VSS ?algorithms are particularly suited for Film and Post production the Rev Core algorithm, known from the TC M5000, is also highly usable. REV-2 The Reverb 2 algorithm initially created for the M5000 compliments most types of source material. Experience has shown that the Reverb 2 algorithm is especially good on percussive instruments, as it has a very well-defined precise buildup.
Its configuration is Stereo In /Stereo Out.The uncorrelated design ensures perfect mono compatibility. PHASER-1 This algorithm is the classic M5000 stereo Phaser-1. CHORUS-1 This algorithm produces a high quality Stereo Chorus and Flanging effect. Furthermore the Chorus-1 algorithm provides the user with the ability to make chorusing type Delay effects. VP2 The algorithm may be used for high quality pitch change for monophonic as well as polyphonic material. Because of intelligent splicing, it may be used for demanding applications like real-time pitch change of entire master tracks when converting frame rates between video and film. Channels may be locked to preserve phase relationship while applying pitch change.
For music applications, VP2 Stereo is the best and most unobtrusive pitch control device in the industry today.
The up and down pitch range is +/- one octave. Feedback,cross-feedback and filters are available for effect purposes. MD3 Dual Mono and Stereo dynamics processing in three frequency bands. Signal-path uses 48 bit processing.
Make-up gain can be applied automatically or manually, so the algorithm can be set-up to do everything from strictly limiting to level maximization. By offering a true side-chain split structure, MD3 is also capable of demanding mono material compression/limiting on two separate channels, not found in other multi-band dynamics processors.
From an M5000 users point of view, MD2 and Toolbox algorithms are brought together in this new algorithm, the resolution is increased, sampling rates go to 96k, and new features are added. As in its predecessors, look-ahead delay may be used for improved peak handling and low distortion operation.
Used for mastering, MD3 can be regarded as a high-end mastering tool. M and S components of a stereo signal can be processed separately and provide even more control making full use of the Spectral Stereo Enhancer.

PC and Mac Editor will also be available in the very near future. NETWORKING FACILITIES A 7.5 meter TC Electronic cable from the TC Icon to its CPU 6000 and a X-coupled Ethernet cable from the CPU 6000 to the Mainframe are both provided. Using the System 6000 Windows NT based Networking facilities, you can connect a number of mainframes to a number of TC Icons. For instance, keep your mainframe in the machine room and have a number of TC Icons in different locations or have one TC Icon to control a number of Mainframes. Handling System 6000 project data over a Windows NT based network makes a tremendous difference to existing Windows NT users. MORE TO COME.. A 3D-Effects package as well as a phase-locked pitch change for multi-channel formats are soon to be released. Further software packages and upgrades will continously be developed and made available for System 6000 users
